Mason Abolition Coalition Welcomes You
Our Story
We began as a small group of students passionate about bringing abolition to Mason and the greater Fairfax community. We decided we wanted to bring Time to Spring Up to Mason because they are experienced and able to train students to keep this project going beyond our own time at GMU. We hope you will join us on our path to abolition.
About
Mason Abolition Coalition was formed this year by a group of Mason Student Leaders from organizations across campus who recognized the need for alternative frameworks, skills, and infrastructures to address racial and gender violence and discrimination on campus. We came to this work as survivors of discrimination and violence who have experienced retraumatization and been let down by Mason’s punitive policies and systems. However, we also come to this work as Mason community members who have felt seen and supported by fellow students, professors, and administrators who are dedicated to creating a culture of care, healing and accountability at Mason. Despite this dedication and passion, we recognize this gap between what we know could be, and what is. We believe that the combination of Spring Up’s campus wide webinar and their intensive 4 month long student workshop series can shift the capacity, relationshionships and skills on campus to make the Mason community’s vision for a diverse community where students are free to learn and thrive a reality.
