Our Purpose

Mason Abolition Coalition is a student-led organization formed in 2020, united to create and implement alternative frameworks, skills, and infrastructures to address the prevalent racial and gender violence and discrimination on campus. We came to this work as survivors of discrimination and violence who have experienced retraumatization and been let down by Mason’s punitive policies and systems. We are not an RSO, but a coalition of students from different social justice and activist groups on Mason’s Campus. Mason Abolition Coalition strives to be transparent and accountable in the work we bring to the Mason Community. We are dedicated to creating a culture of care, healing and accountability at George Mason for all students. We recognize this gap between what we know could be, and what is. Mason Abolition Coalition aims to be efficient and dedicated in the work we do and be of service to our community. By drawing on the wisdom and diverse backgrounds of all our members, we aspire to make George Mason University a safer place of learning and growth for all.
